London Biggin Hill Airport welcomes students to its 10th Futures Week

London Biggin Hill Airport is celebrating the milestone tenth edition of Futures Week, its flagship week-long initiative introducing young people to the aviation industry.

The bi-annual event gives students first-hand experience of the sector and offers an insight into the range of career pathways available. Former participants have gone on to pursue apprenticeships, further education and employment with companies including Bombardier, British Airways, Castle Air Aviation Group and the Royal Navy.

The tenth edition welcomed 15 students for a behind-the-scenes look at careers spanning all aspects of aviation, from aircraft engineer and air traffic control to Rescue and Fire Fighting Services (RFFS) and charter broker. Participants took part in practical workshops, tours and mentoring sessions with professionals from both the airport and its thriving business community, home to more than 70 resident companies.

Hannah Gray, STEM Ambassador, London Biggin Hill Airport, says: "We’re delighted to be celebrating our tenth Futures Week, having now welcomed more than 150 participants over the years. One of the most rewarding aspects of the programme is seeing students discover opportunities they hadn’t previously considered and knowing that many have since gone on to build successful careers in aviation.”

David Winstanley, CEO, London Biggin Hill Airport, says: “We need people in aviation who are willing to ask questions, think differently and find solutions to new challenges. Futures Week is about encouraging this curiosity and confidence from an early stage and helping young people develop the skills that are essential to our industry’s future.”

Futures Week forms part of London Biggin Hill Airport's wider early careers initiatives, aiming to support the development of future aviation talent and create career opportunities for young local people.
