IADA: Strong demand, tight supply drives preowned market

The International Aircraft Dealers Association (IADA) has released its 2026-2027 Current Market Portrait & Forecast, providing a comprehensive assessment of the global preowned business aircraft market as of September 2026 and an outlook through September 2027.

The report finds a fundamentally strong global marketplace supported by healthy demand, historically tight supplies of high-quality aircraft and extended new aircraft delivery backlogs. IADA-Accredited Dealers closed 746 business aircraft transactions during the first half of 2026, an increase of 21% from the same period a year earlier.

Limited availability of younger, well-equipped aircraft continues to shape the market, particularly among midsize, super-midsize and large-cabin aircraft. Desirable aircraft with strong pedigree, current maintenance, engine program coverage, modern avionics and connectivity are attracting buyers quickly and, in some segments, commanding premium prices.

IADA: Strong demand, tight supply drives preowned marketThe forecast identifies 100% bonus depreciation in the United States, healthy business aviation utilization, acceptable financing conditions and long OEM delivery lead times as important demand drivers. At the same time, buyers, sellers and operators continue to navigate geopolitical uncertainty, changing trade policies, higher operating and fuel costs, MRO capacity limitations and lingering supply chain constraints.

North America remains the principal engine of the global preowned business aircraft market. The current US tariff environment remains generally favorable for qualifying preowned business aircraft, while potential restrictions affecting new aircraft imports could further strengthen demand for available preowned aircraft.

The report also examines conditions across Europe, the United Kingdom, the Middle East, Asia, South America and Africa. Regional factors include changing trade relationships, sustainable aviation fuel requirements, aircraft availability, financing conditions and differing levels of economic and business aviation activity.

Higher aviation fuel costs and the premium associated with sustainable aviation fuel are increasingly becoming part of aircraft ownership and operating decisions. The forecast also examines broader economic risks, including the potential long-term implications of historically high U.S. government debt, while noting that no significant direct effect on preowned business aircraft demand has yet emerged.

“The preowned business aircraft market remains strong, but it is also increasingly selective,” said Lou Seno, Executive Director of IADA. “High-quality aircraft with the right pedigree, maintenance status and equipment remain in short supply, making preparation, timing and experienced representation more important than ever for both buyers and sellers.”

The Current Market Portrait & Forecast draws on the transaction experience and market intelligence of IADA-Accredited Dealers and other IADA members worldwide, along with information from industry sources including the National Business Aviation Association, General Aviation Manufacturers Association, International Business Aviation Council, Jetcraft and Global Jet Capital.
