Business aviation has shifted a lot this last decade and the Middle East has kept up the pace. Characterised by resilience, agility and anchored by world-class private terminal (FBOs) and premier aircraft operators, our sector has matured into a critical logistical engine that keeps global commerce moving.
This year, the Middle East Business Aviation and North Africa Association (MEBAA) celebrates 20 years under the leadership of Founding and Executive Chairman Ali Ahmed Alnaqbi. What an appropriate way to wrap up a landmark year than hosting the biennial MEBAA Show, which returns to DWC during 8-10 December.
MEBAA Show is in pole position as the leading, international dedicated business aviation gathering, with an aircraft static display on site, to bring East and West together. It’s grown in relevance as a global show for business aviation leaders seeking opportunities, new collaborations and partnerships. And, as ever, its aviation has kept businesses and individuals moving.
We spoke with industry data analysts WINGX, who will be with us at MEBAA Show, sharing insights and statistics at our upcoming BizAv Talks. Here are their highlights.
Aircraft management shines brightest. Some 42% of our region’s traffic flies under this model, which is good news for entrepreneurial smaller operators seeking expansion here. Fractional ownership accounts for 16% traffic in Europe and rising (60% worldwide with the Americas’ dominance of NetJets, Flexjet and Wheels Up). Yet in the Middle East, fractional ownership makes up just 2%. Therein lies an opportunity. Aircraft management delivers 24% of movements and Private Flight Departments 14%, according to WINGX.

Significant sovereign wealth funds in the UAE and Saudi Arabia remain committed to a post-oil, autonomous future, making the region a ripe market to launch and nurture future flight. Lead players have identified the Middle East as a first driver and MEBAA Show will once again spotlight these advancing urban mobility models.
Large cabin and bizliner (Airbus ACJ and Boeing Business Jet) flying continue to dominate, with two thirds of all business jet traffic in the region operated by heavy and ultra long-range jets. Gulfstream’s new ultra long range G700 now commands a 50% growth in the region, according to WINGX.
The Bombardier Challenger 600/601/604/605/650 platform, accounts for 10% of all ME bizjet departures. Third ranked is the out of production Hawker 700/750/800/850/900. Hawker movements accounted for 9% of all Mideast bizjet departures, up 5% this year, claims WINGX.
Saudi Arabia’s decision to open its domestic market to foreign operators, a landmark decision from its aviation authority GACA in May 2025, has triggered a big uptick in business aviation usage. Business jet traffic in the region surged 13%, while on-demand charter flights grew by 16%. Domestic flights too grew 18% YOY, expanding to account for nearly half of all private aviation activity in the country. The deregulation bolstered regional connectivity too with Saudi-to-UAE routes, capturing 14% of total traffic and growing 6% YOY.
The UAE, meanwhile, remains the dominant hub for regional flight activity, mirroring its economy growing 3% in the first quarter of 2026, reaching a total of AED 485 billion ($132 billion). On demand executive aviation is on course to level up, with a raft of conferences, sports and prolific social events this fall.
This July, Saudi’s The Helicopter Company (THC), announced a landmark move into fixed wing operations, placing a firm order for 12 Bombardier aircraft (five Challenger 3500, five Global 5500 and two Global 8000) plus purchase options on 48 more.
Furthering the Northern Emirates as a private jet location, Gama Aviation inaugurated its new Sharjah business aviation centre early this year, creating new slots, parking and future proofing for electric helicopter, eVTOL operations.
Amongst the top airports in the EMEA region, Turkey’s LTAC Ankara Esenoga Airport became the third busiest airport handling business aviation in the Middle East, accounting for 7% of all Mideast departures, up 14% YOY. Turkish aerospace and defence company Baykar acquired Italy’s Piaggio Aerospace last year, bringing the distinctive Avanti pusher-prop back into production after a six-year stall.
With opportunities in Europe hindered by increasing regulations, taxation, access to hub airports, operators and aviation services companies are seeking new opportunities.
