Brook Aero sets Maldivian aviation first with triple ISO Certification

Brook Aero has become the first aircraft ground-handling supervision company in the Maldives to achieve certification to three ISO management standards, in what is a significant milestone for the country’s developing business aviation sector.

The Maldivian company has secured certification to ISO 9001:2015 (Quality Management), ISO 14001:2015 (Environmental Management) and ISO 45001:2018 (Occupational Health & Safety).

The management system was audited and certified by Scandinavian Business Certification AB in collaboration with Control Union, with the certification covering ground-handling supervision and trip-support activities.

The achievement is notable because the three standards address three increasingly important areas of aviation operations: maintaining consistent quality, managing environmental responsibilities and ensuring appropriate occupational health and safety procedures.

It also represents a move towards internationally recognised management standards within a sector that has expanded rapidly as the Maldives has become an increasingly important destination for private, corporate and charter aviation.

Operating in the Maldives presents particular logistical challenges, with aircraft movements spread across a network of islands and airports. Brook Aero provides ground-handling supervision at six airports, including Velana International Airport (MLE) in Malé, Maafaru, Hanimaadhoo, Gan, Dhaalu and Villa International Airport.

The company also operates a 24-hour Operations Control Centre, coordinating with aircraft operators, trip-support companies, airports and ground-service providers.

While the certification is a company-specific achievement, its wider significance is that it establishes a new benchmark for aviation ground-support operations in the Maldives. Brook Aero’s triple ISO certification provides an internationally recognised framework against which quality, environmental management and occupational safety can be assessed - and marks what is believed to be a first for the country’s aircraft ground-handling supervision sector.
