Current Events Analysis

Business aviation provides hurricane relief to Jamaica
Hurricane Melissa struck Jamaica on 28 October as a category five storm with winds reaching 185 mph, marking the strongest hurricane to hit the island since records began in 1851. The devastation forced the closure of all Jamaican airports except Kingston's Norman Manley International, which has remained operational to facilitate emergency relief efforts.

As of 2 November, the airport had received 26 relief flight arrivals, led by Helidosa Aviation Group, a Dominican Republic-based operator specializing in advanced life support aircraft with highly qualified staff. While Jamaica awaits large-scale government aid, business aviation continues to serve as a critical lifeline for those affected by the natural disaster, demonstrating the sector's vital role in humanitarian response beyond its traditional commercial operations.

Nick Koscinski, WINGX analyst, comments: “October smashed records with over 348,000 flights, the busiest month in our 20-year records.

"Growth has slowed in the US, but picked up in Europe, and surging in ROW markets.

"Hurricane Melissa has also brought into focus a very active role for business aviation in humanitarian and emergency support."
