LondonACS’s part in oil tanker rescue scoops award for Air Cargo Charter |
Leading aircraft charter specialist, Air Charter Service, was honoured last week, scooping an award for Air Cargo Charter Project of the Year at a glitzy awards ceremony, held at the Royal Lancaster London Hotel.
The win was for the company’s involvement in the fire-fighting effort to rescue an oil tanker, which had been targeted, attacked, and boarded by Houthi militants, leaving the ship on fire and stricken in the Red Sea.
ACS was contacted by a UK insurance firm to aid in the transportation of the necessary fire-fighting equipment to the region and, once extinguished, transporting the specialist oil-salvaging apparatus from Singapore and Europe to remove the ship’s cargo of the remaining oil.
James Cristofoli, Cargo Director of ACS London, who was at the event, commented: “In all my team chartered 12 aircraft, ranging from AN-12s to B747s over the course of the operation. The cargo was a mixture of oversized cargo, consolidated firefighting equipment, and the foam to extinguish the flames.
"The overall project was a success, averting a major ecological disaster, and we were privileged to have been called upon to play our part. To be honoured further with this award, voted for by an independent panel of esteemed judges, is an added bonus.
“We arrange more than 30,000 charter flights a year, and an increasing number of the charter projects we are entrusted with make a real difference - this project was certainly one of those times.”
