Current Events Analysis

NYC - Ryder Cup and UN General Assembly
New York City hosted two major events in late September that generated significant business aviation activity. The culminating week of the 80th UN General Assembly ran from 22-29 September, overlapping with the Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black on Long Island from 26 – 28 September. NYC airports recorded 1,383 business jet arrivals during the 19-21 September period leading into the UN General Assembly, representing an 8% increase compared to the same dates in 2024. The Ryder Cup weekend drew even stronger traffic to local airports like Farmingdale, with 2,223 business jet arrivals during the 25 – 28 September period—a 25% year-on-year increase.

Flexjet Orders 300 Otto Aerospace Phantom 3500s
Flexjet has placed a firm order for 300 Otto Aerospace Phantom 3500 aircraft valued at $5.85 billion ($19.5 million per aircraft), representing one of the largest aircraft orders in business aviation history. The clean-sheet design features a windowless cabin (using high-definition displays showing real-time external views instead), seats 8-9 passengers in the super-midsize segment, and promises over 60% fuel burn reduction through advanced aerodynamics and carbon-fiber composites. The aircraft is expected to take flight in 2027 and enter service in 2030.

This aggressive fleet expansion follows Flexjet's $7 billion Embraer order earlier in 2025, as the company plans to nearly double its fleet to over 600 aircraft by 2030. Year-to-date through 28 September, Flexjet ranks as the second busiest business jet operator globally behind NetJets, having flown more than 126,000 flights, an 18% increase compared to the same period in 2024, while operating over 300 active aircraft. Overall fractional business jet activity has reached over 547,000 flights so far this year, up 11% versus the same period in 2024, reflecting continued demand for the fractional ownership model.

Gulfstream Unveils G300 Super-Midsize Aircraft
Gulfstream Aerospace has revealed the G300, a new super-midsize business jet replacing the G280, with first customer delivery scheduled for early 2027 at an expected price of approximately $28 million. The G280, which the G300 will replace, has demonstrated strong market performance since January 2019 with over 268,000 flights recorded. Year-to-date through 28 September, 2025, the G280 has logged over 37,500 flights, a 9% increase compared to the same period in 2024, with nearly 360 active G280s operating globally, representing an 8% year-on-year increase in active fleet size.

Managing Director Richard Koe comments: “While Week 39 was flat compared to last year, the four-week trend shows we're still up 7% which reflects solid underlying demand.

"The New York events, both the UN General Assembly and Ryder Cup, generated strong traffic as expected.

"Looking at the industry side, Flexjet's massive 300-aircraft order and Gulfstream's G300 launch show operators and manufacturers are confident about longterm growth in the business aviation market, especially in the Super Mid segment.”
