Caribbean aviation market shows steady growth through July 2025
The Caribbean aviation market demonstrated resilient growth during the first seven months of 2025, with total flight activity reaching 329,903 movements - a 3.4% increase compared to the same period last year.
Business aviation led the expansion with 133,534 flights (up 3.6%), while scheduled operations contributed 196,369 flights (up 3.2%).
The region's aviation infrastructure supported operations across 381 active airports, with connectivity patterns heavily focused on US markets.

Market Performance Analysis
Business aviation outpaces scheduled growth
Business aviation continues to show strong momentum in the Caribbean, recording 4,308 average flights per week throughout the January-July period. The sector operated from 354 active airports with over 9,400 unique airport pairs, demonstrating business
aviation’s unique connectivity advantage over scheduled operations.
Scheduled operations maintained steady growth at 6,334 weekly flights, utilizing 144 airports across the region. These scheduled flights operated between just 2,065 unique airport pairs.

US routes dominate traffic flows
The Bahamas - United States corridor emerged as the busiest business aviation route, generating 26,357 flights with 7% year-over-year growth. This route alone accounts for nearly 20% of all Caribbean business aviation activity. Bahamas domestic flights ranked second with 6,803 business aviation movements, showing 1% growth and highlighting the importance of domestic connectivity.
Other significant growth routes included British Virgin Islands - Puerto Rico (1,078 flights, up 33%) and Anguilla - United States (787 flights, up 18%), demonstrating the continued appeal of Caribbean destinations for US – based travelers.
Established gateways maintain dominance
Juan Santamaría International Airport (MROC) in Costa Rica topped business aviation activity with 14,241 movements, despite experiencing only a modest 2% growth rate. Lynden Pindling International (MYNN) followed with 12,558 flights, showing stronger 6% growth. Saint Barth’s Executive airport (TFFJ) is also seeing a strong year so far with 6,276 flights, a 38% increase versus the same period last year.
In terms of scheduled operations, the Dominican Republic’s Punta Cana International (MDPC) saw 20,530 total flights, a 10% year-over-year increase. The 2nd top scheduled airport was Costa Rica’s Juan Santamaría International Airport (MROC), recording a total of 11,429 flights, also a 10% year-over-year increase.
Turboprops lead activity while jets showed mixed performance
Turboprop aircraft dominated Caribbean business aviation with 84,460 flights, representing 4% growth and highlighting their suitability for the region's shorter routes and smaller airports. Super Midsize Jets showed the strongest growth amongst jet
categories at 9%, with 13,198 movements, while Heavy Jets contributed 9,351 flights with solid 8% expansion.
Conversely, some business jet categories experienced contraction, with Light Jets declining 3% and Entry Level Jets falling 13%, suggesting a market shift toward larger, more capable jets for Caribbean operations.
Diverse mix of charter and scheduled carriers
Air Century SA led business aviation operators with 1,220 flights, with a modest 2% growth. The top tier demonstrated healthy diversity, with operators like Aerobell Air Charter (25% growth) and Aereo Ruta Maya (75% growth) posting significant gains,
indicating robust demand across different market segments.
