Well-known YouTuber, Simon Wilson has organised a race between five contestants to Monaco, to win a whopping £5,000 cash prize. Simple as it may initially sound, the apprehensive candidates are blindfolded before being flown to an unknown location. From here they go head to head in a battle to get to Monaco first, stripped of all belonging and not a penny on them!
Although there can only be one winner, contestants are trying to raise as much money as possible for The Bridge Retreat bursary fund - a residential programme supporting those with mental health issues.
Simon Wilson tells us, "With this challenge I really wanted to raise awareness for The Bridge Retreat and the work they do around emotional and mental health. It’s getting to Christmas and a lot of people struggle at Christmas, if everybody who watches the videos donates a pound, we’d make such a difference."
The blindfolded contestants are dropped in the middle of a field in Den Helder, the northernmost point of the North Holland peninsula.
Sovereign Business Jets were keen to support the awareness of such a significant issue and donated the Hawker 800B: G-JBLL to fly contestants Bethany, Robyn, Lee, Ricky and Gordon along with Simon and his team to Amsterdam, to kick the race off.
The first video - aired on Monday 9th December - saw the contestants experience their last dose of comfort on the eight seater jet before embarking on the tough task of racing through Europe. Sovereign organised the collection of the blindfolded candidates from Rotterdam The Hauge airport to the middle of a field in Den Helder, an hour and a half's drive, from which the race officially began.
Viewers can watch the five’s intriguing and often overwhelmingly difficult journeys in a fascinating series of five videos called the Simon Wilson’s No Money Rat Race. Equipped with just a rucksack containing a bottle of water, packet of biscuits, bottle of tomato ketchup, £1 brolly and a phone with only £10 credit to last the whole competition. Which individual wins the final leg in the race to Monaco, together with a fabulous £5,000, will be shown in the final episode.
