Gama Aviation adds to its European services
Flight testing; NVIS modification capability; FAA approvals for Bombardier and Embraer aircraft.

Gama Aviation continues to develop the depth and breadth of its offer by introducing three new services to private and fleet owners.

The first extends the capability of its renowned EASA Part 21J & G capability at Fairoaks, Surrey. The team, specialising in a variety of civilian and military role changes and upgrades, has now added the approval for flight testing in accordance with EASA’s Flight Test Operations Manual (FTOM).

Flight testing can now be carried out via one of two categories:

  • Within the existing aircraft envelope; this corresponds broadly to an “engineering flight test” of changes to type design that do not significantly modify the aircraft’s behaviour.
  • For an already certified aircraft type, in case of an embodiment of a not yet approved design change.

David Wyatt, Head of Airworthiness, Gama Aviation, commented: “Flight testing has always been an integral part of our DOA’s activity, this new approval allows us to offer our clients greater flexibility in managing their projects.”

Night vision imaging systems (NVIS)

Gama Aviation has a long history of supplying a wide range of cockpit, cabin and external stores modifications for special mission purposes. With NVIS capability being an increasing requirement for 24/7 operations, particularly amongst the air ambulance community, the company is delighted to announce its EASA approval for NVIS integration.

David Wyatt commented: “NVIS allows us to integrate all elements to safely operate an aircraft with night vision goggles. Those elements include: windshields, lighting, instrument, display and control illumination. The approval provides us with the capability to modify non-NVIS aircraft and provide upgrades to existing NVIS capabilities, a set of services we believe will be in high demand given the regulatory environment and public demand for 24/7 aeromedical services.”

FAA approvals

Gama Aviation’s maintenance base at Oxford Airport has added to its comprehensive coverage with the additional of FAA approvals for ‘N’ registered Bombardier Global and Challenger series, Embraer Legacy series and BAe Hawker series aircraft.

Scott Corbett, Base Maintenance Manager, Gama Aviation Oxford, commented: “This summer has seen a high volume of maintenance activity taking place in Oxford. The new approvals, combined with our 24/7 AOG coverage for these highly popular types creates a compelling proposition for individuals and fleet owners who want holistic coverage of their aircraft.”

Duncan Daines, Group Chief Marketing Officer comments: “We have two clear strategies for growth. While our acquisitions grab headlines, the expertise of our teams in developing targeted, high demand services provides the foundation for our organic growth.”
