Global independent MRO services provider, Vector Aerospace, is celebrating the 25th anniversary this year of its Summerside, Prince Edward Island (PEI), Canada, facility. Summerside has been providing world-class engine MRO services since 1991.

“We have achieved this milestone through the hard work and dedication of our employees and our culture of customer service that exists throughout the entire organization,” said Jeff Poirier, President of Vector’s Engine Services - Atlantic division. “Our goal in the next 25 years is to stay in the forefront of the industry by providing our customers with high quality MRO services. Throughout 2016, we will be taking a look at where we started, what we have achieved and what our plans are for the future.”

Vector Aerospace Engine Services - Atlantic (formerly Atlantic Turbines Inc.) is a fully-authorized Pratt & Whitney Canada (P&WC) Distributor & Designated Overhaul Facility (DDOF) for the PT6A and JT15D engine series, as well as a P&WC Designated Overhaul Facility (DOF) for the PW100 engine series.

In 1991, the City of Summerside lost an integral part of its community with the closure of Canadian Forces Base Summerside in Slemon Park. At the same time, a Newfoundland and Labrador airline - Air Atlantic - was looking for a place to service its engines. A perfect storm of opportunity, location and convenience opened the door for Atlantic Turbines Inc. (ATI) to step into the newly formed industrial park.

Vector has grown significantly since it first opened in 1991 with four employees. Today, the Summerside facility employs over 445 staff and is PEI’s largest aerospace company. Vector operates a 140,000-square-foot facility in Slemon Park, complemented by fly-in capabilities and convenient hangar space.

In addition to its main location in Slemon Park, Vector’s Engine Services - Atlantic division also has a service center in Calgary, Alberta, as well as service centers in the United States, South Africa, Kenya, Australia and Singapore.

Vector’s employees are among the industry's most skilled, knowledgeable and highly trained, employing enterprise-wide lean best practices that allow them to expedite repair and overhaul of customers’ engines. The company’s reputation for attention to detail, finished quality and on-time delivery has earned Vector a fiercely loyal base of customers throughout the world.

Earlier this year, the Summerside facility was named as one of the “Best Places to Work in Atlantic Canada” by Progress Magazine and Best Companies Group, its second year in a row earning the distinction.

Vector’s presence on PEI continues to generate valuable revenue for the local economy through its workforce and supply chain, and the company also works closely with local higher education establishments, including Holland College and the University of Prince Edward Island.
